Eric E. McLauchlin joined Shaffer Law Office in January of 2011. He graduated summa cum laude from Salisbury University and is an honors graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law. Eric served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Stephen M. Waldron in the Circuit Court for Harford County for one year prior to beginning a fifteen-year career at the law firm of Gessner, Snee, Mahoney & Lutche where he assisted clients regularly in business matters, contracts, real estate development, estate planning, and employment law matters. Eric will continue his areas of expertise here at Shaffer Law Office.

Eric’s business practice includes advice on business formation, structures, sales, mergers and acquisitions. He regularly prepares agreements related to the protection, use and transfer of intellectual property, and regularly prepares contracts to achieve business planning goals. Eric routinely assists with governmental relations between his clients, Harford County and its municipalities, particularly where economic development efforts and doing business with Aberdeen Proving Ground are concerned.

             

As a complement to the business services he provides, Eric advises individuals, families and business owners on estate planning issues, including wills, trusts, wealth preservation, succession management and estate administration. Eric also matches his business practice with employment advice and litigation, assisting managers and employers with matters related to Title VII, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, wage payment issues, employment torts, employment contracts, employee handbooks, disputes related to restrictive employment covenants and other employment issues.

Eric is broadly involved in economic development efforts within the region. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Slavie Federal Savings Bank. He was appointed to and currently serves as the Chairperson of the Harford County Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB). Eric is currently president of the Board of Directors for the Harford County Chamber of Commerce and has served in leadership roles on its Executive Committee and Legislative Committee. He was appointed to Harford County’s BRAC Preparedness Advisory Commission (BPAC) and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Route 40 Business Association. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council (NMTC).

Eric also dedicates considerable time to civic, charitable and community activities. Eric is a member of the University System of Maryland Foundation Board. He is a former member and President of the Salisbury University Alumni Board. Eric currently serves on the Board of Harford Hospice and supports his daughters’ dancing aspirations by serving on the Board of the Harford Ballet Company. He is the former Chairperson of the Harford County Family Branch Board of the YMCA and was its 2003 volunteer of the year. Eric is a graduate and former Board Member of the Harford Leadership Academy, and has been selected from among the Academy’s alumni as one if its Top Twenty Leaders. Eric and his wife, Tracey, reside in Fallston with their daughters.
